FWE leave may be used for a variety of personal, family, and educational needs, including physical, mental, or financial wellness appointments such as counseling, credit or estate planning, or visits related to domestic violence support or safety planning. It also covers school-related or school-sponsored events like parent-teacher conferences, field trips, or assisting a child with college enrollment or orientation. Additional uses include administrative needs related to continuing education, as well as pet wellness and adoption appointments. All FWE leave must be approved by the employee’s supervisor prior to the leave being taken, and documentation supporting the qualifying reason for the leave must be provided to the supervisor. Acceptable documentation may include appointment confirmations, provider notes, event notices, or other relevant materials. Leave must be used in one-hour increments, does not roll over year to year, and is forfeited upon separation. It cannot be used in conjunction with personal or disability leave.
