“Hope” is the thing with feathers - That perches in the soul - And sings the tune without the words - And never stops - at all - And sweetest - in the Gale - is heard - And sore must be the storm - That could abash the little Bird That kept so many warm - I’ve heard it in the chillest land -
Dear Friends,
As we journey down our path into the “Next Generation” of our mission, I am drawn to the poem, “Hope” is the thing with feathers - (314), by Emily Dickinson. A study of Ms. Dickinson reveals that she lived mostly a secluded life in the middle part of the 19th century. It’s an experience with which we can per- haps identify more easily now as a consequence of the COVID world thrust upon us these past 18 months or so.
As it did for a poet of a past generation, hope -- however frail it may appear to be, even as a little bird -- sustains our dream, and inspires our work.
And on the strangest Sea - Yet - never - in Extremity, It asked a crumb - of me.
We manage, enhance, and protect the Edwards Aquifer system, not for ourselves, but for those who one day will look back and be glad we did. We hope.
